"There can be no real goodfoodmood,
if we as a company do not operate responsibly."
Thomas Gustafsson, Duni CEO
To be certified as ecoecho® a Duni product should live up to at least two of our four environmental criteria. These must apply to significant part of the product. Living up to one of criteria may be enough if – compared to the standard alternative(s) – the relevant material clearly drives change towards more sustainable practices.
For more detailed information, please see below.
Product is made using raw materials that show clear resource efficiency compared to standard alternatives. For instance, recycled materials, low processed filler materials like Chalk, and by-products that otherwise would have been considered waste.
Product is made using renewable raw materials from the biosphere: wood or plant material. Renewable materials are part of the biomass CO2 cycle and do not contribute to global warming, as opposed to carbon based materials such as mineral oil.
Product is made using materials that biodegrade in industrial composting facilities under the standard EN 13432. To take full advantage of this, the product should be sorted with other bio-waste (food) for industrial composting whenever possible. Local waste regulations need to be followed or agreements made with local waste handlers.
Product is made using raw-materials that are part of a certification scheme, which assures responsible social and environmental practice in forestry or plantation.
Compostable bagasse is a great example of upcycling. It is made with surplus natural material from sugar production: sugar cane stems.
rPET is made from recycled plastic bottles – which otherwise would end up in landfill sites or burnt as fuel.
Compostable PLA is made from otherwise surplus renewable material: fermentable corn starch. Bioplastics like PLA offer society a way to reduce dependence on fossil fuels.
To qualify as ecoecho®, cardboard products must be either FSC-certified or have a compostable lining. Some meet both these criteria.
Our Simply Stearin candles are made from renewable, fully traceable material. They carry the Swan Nordic Ecolabel.
ecoecho® bioplastic is made from sugar cane: 94% of the organic carbon in the material is from plant-based resources. It is created using a highly efficient manufacturing process, which is integrated with the production of sugar.
Tactile, lustrous Bamboo has a minimal environmental impact. It also offers outstanding functional properties that make it ideal for HORECA use.
“I’m very happy to be working with Duni and supporting the ecoecho® range. It fits with my philosophy: I always use sustainable, seasonal and, whenever possible local ingredients.”
